St. Louis, MO - The Pittsburgh The Pirates placed pitcher Gerrit Cole on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday. Cole, a right-hander, is suffering from right lat soreness. The move is retroactive to July 5. He spent 3 1/2 weeks on the DL earlier this season due to a fatigued shoulder. Cole is 7-4 with a 3.78 ERA in 14 starts this season. In 85 2/3 innings, he has allowed 83 hits and walked 29 while striking out 78. The Pirates recalled right-handed pitcher Brandon Cumpton from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace Cole on the roster.
